The process approach a process support method of thinking applied to understanding and planning the sequence and interaction of processes in the system. There are different stages of process writing which include prewriting, drafting, editing and publishing. Prewriting is the first step of the writing process and consists of brainstorming, outlining and drafting the plan for the piece. One may use a storyboard or cluster map for gathering their ideas. Comprehensiveness is one of its weaknesses, but still, there are many advantages. Such as easy to learn and shape our thoughts. The next stage is drafting. This is where student begin to actually write their essays. During the editing stage, is when their work constantly being changed to make it better by correcting grammar and punctuation. Publication is producing the final product to the teacher or to be viewed by others. Students benefit from this of course which allow them to think critically as they write.

ReplyDeleteYes, it is time consuming, and resources are limited for teachers to apply the process writing strategy to develop their students’ writing skills. However, the traditional method of simply producing finished pieces to be marked in a class session is discouraging and students will see writing as a chore. Students were robbed of a valuable tool for processing thought, a tool that would reflect the personality of the student that can be an authentic means of measuring intelligence. When it comes to retaining new concepts, every student has some experience to build new knowledge. The process writing strategy would be an adequate platform as they combine critical thinking and experience to build meaningful connections. The stages of process writing will then resemble a mind map made evident of their choices and construction of their piece. Students make decisions as to what they find important about a particular subject to mention in their writing in the prewriting stage. This is the raw stage as raw material is gathered. They refine their work, which is where the writer takes joy in perfecting their piece in the editing. Time will contribute to the quality of their work. The writer then showcases their work to their intended readers whether teacher or fellow classmates. As students move on to higher grades this skill should be developed to assist them in their learning and to make adequate use of critical thinking.
I do appreciate the idea of utilizing a cluster map during the brainstorming category. I believe it illustrates to students that the don't necessarily have to stick to the traditional way of writing. This also serves a purpose for the visual learners of the class. Well done
